What kind of building material is this? Who knows this?

The niche where a radiator used to be is being broken out so that the window above it becomes a door. In the process, I found under the plaster what I have attached in the pictures. What exactly is that? And do I need to be concerned about it when working on it? Behind this strange "insulation"(?) the wall is made of bricks coated with a black layer. The house is from 1969, so one is a bit cautious about everything that might have been installed... Regards N

The grey on the left is a wood wool lightweight panel, sauerkraut panel, and whatever other names it has.

Then probably comes plaster. I can't say anything about the black part.

The black could be bitumen. But also something completely different. Maybe a specialist should take a look.

It is very likely that asbestos fibers are incorporated in the insulation material or boards. Indicators: year of construction, heating niche, gray color, fibers. This can be checked in an independent laboratory. It costs around 100€.

if is right, an FFP2 mask is NOT sufficient to come out of the matter unharmed during dismantling! So be careful!

After the keyword Sauerkrautplatten I found this:
The Sauerkrautplatten or Heraklithplatten may look like they contain asbestos at first glance due to their gray color, but you don't need to worry at all, even with older plates: Sauerkrautplatten generally do not contain asbestos.
