What is causing this damage to the window? Mold? Age?

Hello forum

I am thinking about buying a 1960s apartment. Attached are photos of the windows. One of the seals on the glass appears to have slight mold.

But can you tell me what the "black dirt" is in the other photos? It doesn’t look like mold to me but rather actual dirt, partly weathered wood, possibly iron filings?

And would you share my assessment that 1. the windows were painted clumsily and 2. it is better to replace the windows immediately instead of living in the apartment for a few more years and then replacing them?

Best regards
Torsten

Unfortunately, I can only open/see one photo, and in the photo, it looks to me like classic mold. The individual spots spreading outward are quite pronounced. However, the resolution leaves something to be desired when I zoom in. That means: I'm not sure. ah… you just have to wait long enough for more pictures to open. They are not attached with the forum software.

That is classic mold in the window corners!

Well… I wouldn't call it sloppy… this is wood from the 60s, paint from the ?70s? painter from the 80s… I don't see a price pressure factor here, rather the fact with the mold.

Mold, poorly ventilated / heated.

That does not seem to me to be wood or painted, but structured PVC. On the seals (who uses them in light color?) it may be mold, in the corner simply dirt. In I would also assume mold.

No, those are (many?) old layers of paint on a wooden window. Tip for you as a beginner ;), if the window has a "drip rail," it is "usually" not a plastic window.

You say "apartment from the 60s." At first glance, the windows don't seem much younger either. Without maintenance, improper heating, and ventilation, they look the way they do. If the rest of the apartment is like that as well (and according to your other questions, that seems to be the case), I would just start with a complete renovation. Except in the best locations of the metropolises, the apartment can't cost much...
