How do I keep mold away from the attic?

It can still be a cold roof.

The name cold roof refers to the ventilation, not the insulation.
So if the attic is not thermally separated and sealed with a vapor barrier from the rest of the house, as indicated by the uninsulated staircase, the moisture will migrate upwards.

Then the mold and the musty smell are probably due to the lack of heating and ventilation.

Good morning, we are currently also in the planning phase and I too am concerned that mold might possibly develop in the attic. Do you have any general tips to keep in mind? Or tips that should already be considered during the planning stage? We will have a gable roof with a truss construction. This is intended to serve as a basement replacement. However, we also want to be able to store winter clothing or similar items there. The general contractor will hand over the attic without finishing it. We wanted to lay tongue and groove boards there and possibly also insulate and clad it with drywall. However, after reading this here, I am no longer sure if that is the right thing to do. Thank you very much

The binders come in the standard version, that means lots of supports crisscrossing, an obstacle course with suitcases and decorations. Or as storage binders, with a passage in the middle, or as studio binders, which creates a large open space up top. Ask your [GU] what the surcharges are.

"It depends..." Where is the insulation layer? In the roof or on the ceiling? Storing delicate parts outside the insulation makes little sense. In the insulated attic, the situation is better. For safety, we even had two small windows installed to allow ventilation. Mold is caused by incorrect temperatures + moisture.

Yes, we are also considering simply planning two windows for ventilation. However, then you have to go up there daily to ventilate, right? I suppose the insulation level will be the ceiling to the attic. So I suppose the most sensible thing for storing sensitive parts is to insulate the attic and ensure sufficient ventilation? Possibly through a decentralized ventilation system?

Ventilation and heating. Ventilating alone is useless.
