What gate size is required for a new double garage construction?

As large as possible and sectional door opening upwards, if necessary with a separate entrance door depending on usage.

We have a 7x7m garage and a 5.5m wide sectional door. The width is absolutely sufficient for two normal cars (in our case a small car + a van). If I imagine having 25cm less on each side... it would actually still work. The wider, the more comfortable. I can never really make sense of the isolated width questions here anyway, as they are nonsense: the driveway situation (straight approach or turning in a straight or odd number of moves, height level being flat, ascending or descending) plays a significant role. We approach at a 90° angle and thus enter backwards in 2, rarely 4 tracks. The entry is ascending, about 3m of space up to the street.

We ordered a 5.5 m wide garage door from the general contractor. Background: both cars are to be parked forwards, measuring the optimal parking depth with a tennis ball hanging from the ceiling against the windshield (the good old trick). In front of the two cars, we have planned a shelf on the back wall of the garage that allows one to drive under with the hood (meaning there are no compartments at the bottom up to about waist height).
