My former parental home in BaWü from the "Neue Heimat," a semi-detached house with about 85 sqm plus an outbuilding (masonry but similar to a stable) on 440 sqm. We lived there with our relatives, sometimes with up to 90 people. Cost point according to the contract about 30,000 DM. The construction service description is a template where you could check from simplest to "higher quality," with most checks on the left side for us. Heating was done with an oil stove in the living room; insulation in our children's room under the roof was not present. When I read this now, I have to smile about what one could be satisfied with, because oil heating, roof insulation, and other frills were only retrofitted over the years, as money was available; however, this was usually scarce for war returnees or displaced persons. The "commonly required own contribution" mentioned in the opening thread, which was still necessary here, cannot certainly be compared in terms of the endurance of the builders of that time with today's. Ultimately, under today's points of view, it had the living quality of a better garage complex, which is why in a comparison, I would no longer even talk about apples and oranges but rather about papaya and bratwurst. Nevertheless, it's nice that this thread made me rummage through the old documents. My memory of it is nice, but when I look more closely at the (construction) conditions of that time, I recognize how high the waves are on which we are now fortunately allowed to swim.
