Welds on the painted railing - assessment?

Yes, that looks more like scratches: I guess ropes of a "block and tackle" where the railing was used as a "sheave" to pull a load to one of the balconies beneath. Sand, prime with rust protection, touch up paint.

: how do you know what the OP commissioned? When I ordered my railing, not a word was ever said about the type and finishing of the welds. I simply assumed they would clean that up.

The craftsman simply delivered very poor work. This has nothing to do with "you get what you pay for" anymore. I would even almost claim that this sharp-edged crack poses a great risk of injury, especially to children. Simply concealing this defect or covering it up and presenting it to the customer alone shows the company's morals! Edit: Not even properly securing a railing so that it can be lifted into place with the crane without damaging it can the...

We only know that he apparently did not order the option - whether it was offered to him, we do not know (but that should - also in terms of warranty law - not be a litigable "omission", rather poor customer service). Not a crack, but a burr - otherwise full agreement, hence my advice to grind off the burr.

Definitely a crack! It looks like it was filled with something before it was powder coated.
