We have a similar problem. In our case, however, the soil has been spread on the property for 1 year - but no lawn has been sown yet due to various construction measures. Thus, the weeds are happily lurking around the area. We will now finally tackle this by autumn in order to sow the lawn then. You should at least not let the weeds grow so large that they can self-seed. That means at least cutting them back - better yet, pulling them out. You should also keep in mind that the roots can sprout again when they are in the ground. Sometimes even if only root parts remain in the soil (e.g. with thistles). The only help here is to pull them out including the roots. By the way, I have not had good experiences so far with this hand weed remover. had very good experiences with the Fiskars Weed Remover (advertisement: stab, click, out). My primary tool for working the soil is the digging fork.

We also use a weed puller, but you have to be aware that you will be left with holes in the lawn. I would not pull weeds without reseeding the lawn. For me personally, that would be far too time-consuming. If sowing is only planned in spring, it is enough to dig up or till the soil during light frost. The weeds then die off due to the frost. In this way, at least the sowing is initially without disturbing little herbs, which of course will quickly find their way back. Only then does the real battle against dandelion, field horsetail, and co. begin.

Caution - it very much depends on the type of weed. If the weed growth is small and fine - yes, your statement is correct. With classic deep-rooted weeds, digging and some frost do not really help. It always depends on the weed growth. How big / how strong the plants are. Last year, we already pulled out huge amounts of corn poppy, thistles, dandelions, wild chamomile (not deep-rooted), etc. We had also dug again accordingly, as the lawn reseeding was actually planned for this spring. Nevertheless, this year we had our favorites again, which happily grew up into the sky and down into the depths again .
