Hello everyone,

we have decided on a pool and also want the automatic water replenishment. That means we need water in our outdoor storage where the pool technology and the irrigation control are to be located. Of course, we didn’t think about this during planning and execution, since the desire for a pool and automatic irrigation came much later. Whatever.

The outdoor storage is part of the house, but it is not part of the thermal envelope and has no direct access from the house. Now the question is how we can establish the water connection in the outdoor storage. We would definitely put a separation station in front. There are actually two possibilities:

1) The pool builder’s suggestion was actually that we lay an additional cold water line from the utility room on the opposite side into the outdoor storage. We can branch off from it. However, this would require a core drilling through the concrete wall and the insulation. I actually want to avoid that. But the pool builder says that this is absolutely no problem if the drilling is foamed shut afterward. So neither from a thermal nor soundproofing point of view, especially since the outdoor storage also has a door and is otherwise already sealed.
2) The question I have only considered so far. At the front, we already have a frost-proof outdoor faucet. Would it theoretically be possible to modify it or go from it through the garden and the front, uninsulated wall of the outdoor storage to supply the technology? Or is this for some reason not sensible or possible? The then missing outdoor faucet could be compensated with a water socket, if it works out?

What do the experts say? Is the solution with the additional line safe and cleaner? Or are you risking creating a hole that wouldn’t have to be there?

Regards

I have always written about water in other pool threads... The easier way would be to branch off at or before the existing outdoor water tap. The solenoid valve is only located in the technical room. But everything must be at frost-free depth.

The core drilling would also not be a problem. Instead of foam, a Doyma seal or Einsparte inserted. That would be my choice.

Thank you for your assessment.

Regarding the connection at the outdoor water tap: What speaks against it from your point of view? The pool builder was not really enthusiastic and didn’t elaborate much on it. What exactly has to be at frost-free depth? The water tap is about 70 cm in the wall and would then go down into the ground.

Thanks for the idea of the seal or sleeve insert. I’ll look into that this evening. It’s probably the cleanest option if you do decide to drill after all.

If you actively winterize the pool, the refill must also work. If parts of the water pipe are not frost-free, the pipe must be drained and the refill won’t work.

Better do a core drill and put in a Doyma insert. Clean solution. I have almost 20 fittings just for the pool. But I didn’t have to drill, I just left the holes in the concrete out.

Thanks for the explanation. How about the pressure in general? The pipe is branched off from the main line that also supplies all the other (except the kitchen) tapping points. This applies both to the cold water pipe that would be laid separately and to the outdoor faucet. Does this all work in that configuration at all? I also got a measuring device with which I will measure the quantity at 3.5 bar in the next few days.

Your water pressure decreases the more outlets are open. The refill does not draw more water than a faucet. It does not run forever either. It's like when one person is showering and another faucet is opened. Slight pressure fluctuation but no problem.
