Since we had a similar problem with water ingress in the basement, I would be interested to know what happened with your case. Feel free to send me a private message.

We are still drying. In some places the measurements are good, in others not yet. However, mainly due to other extreme defects and botched work, we have now brought in an expert and hired a lawyer. This lawyer will now, among other things, demand the drying of the screed. Force majeure or not, at the time of acceptance, which has yet to take place, we have a right to defect-free work. We will not accept a soaked basement.

Hello,

we also had water in the basement due to a storm, and that was already after we had moved in. We immediately hired a specialized drying company that started drying the very next day.

In our case, the screed was drilled in several places to remove the water that had gotten underneath (you could even see the water in the insulation there!). The drying devices ran around the clock for almost 2 weeks (dryers, fans, and a special device that dries the water under the screed). Meanwhile, our basement is completely dry again, and we were lucky to have taken out [Elementarschadenversicherung] that covered all the damages and the drying.

Water in the basement, especially when the screed is already in place, is no joke because you yourself cannot estimate what damage it can cause.

Best regards

Is there already a statement on who will cover the costs? Or is the lawyer handling that?

Drilling into the screed was also discussed with us, but according to the building biologist, it would not have been sufficient. We only did that on an area of about 4 m2 in the utility room, since it was already tiled there and the domestic hot water storage tank was already in place. Otherwise, everything had to be removed and started again. By the way, the drying process took us a whole 2 months!

Fortunately, the water didn't rise high for us and not in every room (I noticed the water intrusion immediately upon coming home, called the fire department, and tried to hold back some water with the wet vacuum cleaner), so we managed with significantly fewer drying measures than you did.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be back to normal soon!

Good evening,

Has a geological report been prepared? And if so, on whose behalf?

Best regards from the Rhineland
