that's not the point at all. the branch line stands still for 8 months a year. the water inside it acquires germs over time, which then migrate back from the branch line into the original pipe and are then drawn off normally.

the relevant regulations state:

DIN EN 806-2, 18.3
To avoid stagnation, the installation must be designed so that, under normal operating conditions, the drinking water is regularly renewed.

DIN EN 806-4, 4.8
Outlet fittings and pipes must be arranged so that stagnation is reduced.

now, of course, one could speculate whether a water meter + connection terminal is acceptable. however, it is absolutely clear that the meter shortens the branch line after the tap and benefits the second paragraph.

our plumber argued exactly the same way back then when we wanted a connection area in the house. it was definitely NOT forgotten.

Our water pipe from the outdoor faucet runs as a branch line through the entire house. The meter is in the utility room. A shut-off valve is definitely present in the utility room. I believe a drain valve is also installed to make the line water-free.

Then you just make a branch line with a check valve off the utility room, then the meter, and at the other END of the house the water tap. It's all no problem.

And you don't need it for 8 months? Interesting. Then why do the work at all? And what do you need the tap for?

When reading about this topic on bosy and co, one finds that stagnation is said to occur after just four hours. So this applies here to every single faucet several times a day. One then wonders whether the issue of contamination is actually relevant or just a sales gimmick.

We insulate, standardize, pump, solarize, seal, and sterilize ourselves to the point where an 85 sqm holiday home costs 500 thousand. Only where it matters, in clinics and nursing homes, the multidrug-resistant germ rules because it is too expensive and ensures revenue for the undertaker. Karsten
