I plan to install vinyl flooring in a new building with underfloor heating and [Kontrollierte-Wohnraumlüftung], in the living room of about 34 sqm and all 4 bedrooms.

1.- What is recommended here, glue-down or click?

2.- Mostly in new buildings glue-down is recommended, but how can a damaged glued vinyl plank be replaced in this case? Do you perhaps have instructions for this?

3.- Can I completely remove glued vinyl later to install something new?

4.- How does vinyl react to heavy pieces of furniture?

5.- Doesn't the vinyl adhesive dissolve due to the screed temperature/humidity from the underfloor heating?

6.- Is a 0.5 mm wear layer recommended for a family with children, or is 0.3 mm sufficient?

Thank you,

Hello Momad,

we are also currently building and the floor fitter will glue about 160 m² of vinyl on all three floors (ground floor, upper floor, basement) next week or the week after. We have underfloor heating everywhere. Everything will be fitted with vinyl except the bathrooms, the anteroom, and the utility room.

Since we want to lay all rooms without joints on the floors, we were recommended to glue everything down. Just for a living room of around 30 m² with large windows where the sun shines on the floor, we were advised not to lay it floating. The advantage of gluing it is that you can relatively easily replace individual planks. This is not possible with floating flooring. The floor fitter explained the replacement to us by heating the plank, which makes the adhesive loosen easily. I assume that the flow temperature of your underfloor heating will not manage to heat the screed surface (or the surface of the leveling compound on which the adhesive is) strongly enough to loosen it.

Regarding moisture, we were told that he has already laid vinyl in many bathrooms and that it is moisture resistant.

I can't say anything about the wear layer at the moment. Since we have chosen 3 different decors, I think the wear layer is 3 or 5 mm.

I could share my experience once we have moved in at the end of the month...

Best regards,
Sebastian

A quick question about vinyl flooring: Does the screed in the new building still need to be prepared? If yes, what needs to be done and how time-consuming is it? Keyword: [Eigenleistung]?

Yes, it is also possible with floating click vinyl; you just have to saw off the tongue and then glue it.

Regarding heavy furniture: We have had very good experiences with our vinyl, both with heavy furniture and all other stresses. Our children are not exactly gentle, but so far the floor doesn’t have a single scratch. I even built cabinets directly on it.

@ seth: We spoke with 3 independent floor layers and heard more or less the same from all: Preparing the substrate includes sanding the "raw" screed; then a leveling compound is applied and finally, if necessary, it is filled. (We have cement screed). So for us, that meant: no own work. It should look good afterwards... : That's true indeed... That would be possible

Thank you for the feedback, that’s great, so it will definitely be vinyl and glued.

: What exactly is meant by that, or what are the advantages of installing without joints?
Which vinyl manufacturer or type (plank or tile) is being installed with you?
My floor installer has Amtico and Joka in the program.
