Hello everyone

we are buying a house and would like to cover the tiled floor, which extends from the ground floor to the first floor, with either a parquet floor or vinyl. The house has underfloor heating.

Are there any pros/cons for laying over the tiles? Is it better/advisable to remove the tiles?

we would like to lay it in a herringbone pattern.

Contra: - Efficiency of the heating suffers significantly - Possibly leveling compound needed for vinyl - Doors need to be shortened Pro: -,- Do yourself a favor and remove the tiles.

I almost thought so.

How much does tile removal + preparation cost approximately per m2? So I can calculate it.

I want to see the calculation in which the efficiency of the heating is massively affected by the tiles under the vinyl. Tiles have a thermal resistance of 0.01 m²K/W, vinyl including impact sound insulation is around 0.04-0.07. Parquet can also reach 0.1 m²K/W and more, depending on the material and thickness of the covering.

Specifically: The vinyl(!) worsens the efficiency, not "massively" but noticeably. The tiles underneath don’t matter at all.

There is no reasonable, i.e. comprehensible, reason to remove the old tiles! The entire surface will be ground with a diamond blade, then the dust will be vacuumed and alkaline primed cleaned. After that, (not can) a spatula compound must be applied evenly to level the surface so that the pattern of the joints does not show through the new top layer. But a removal of the old tiles is definitely not necessary as long as they are firmly fixed! The risk that the unavoidable mechanics occurring when detaching the tiles significantly disturb the underlying screed structure (with underfloor heating) is unmistakably high to me. So it’s better to leave the current condition as is and build upon it before you incur enormous costs, dust, and additional, i.e. avoidable problems. Regards: KlaRa
