Who installed what or plans to install something? Does it make you feel safer? Can your cameras do more than just show images?

This is what it looks like for us after the series of break-ins a few years ago in the neighborhood.

Outside, around the house, there are 5 bullet cameras and one dome camera installed at the entrance. Inside the house, there are three more dome cameras.

Everything is connected via POE. Inside sits an NVR with enough storage space for about 14 days of continuous recording. However, the cameras are (of course) event-driven and only record as soon as movement appears in certain areas of the image. (Thus the NVR has never really been full)

The cameras have different resolutions depending on the installation location, 3-10 MP

Also, the affected camera can trigger actions in case of prolonged movement or sabotage. For example, turning lights on/blinking, sending images over the internet, activating a siren, etc.

I don’t want to claim that this makes us live more securely, but more calmly. Because you know, as long as no images come from home, everything is fine.

What did everything cost you altogether?

Hello,

interesting that you are asking that right now. I had already planned surveillance, but since there was an attempted break-in at our place two days ago, I am currently tackling the issue.

I have now ordered an 8MP camera from HikVision, which is powered via PoE. Integration into Edomi and corresponding logic should be quite feasible.

However, only two cameras are planned, and I have laid the appropriate cables for them.

We also hope for an increased sense of security.

Regards, Christian

Hmm no idea 1-2 thousand. (Could post the MSRPs, would probably be 5 thousand then, but I only had to put down a fraction of that)

I'm bored, so I thought about what else we could discuss... and behold, it fits

Still in planning for me, but definitely PoE laid everywhere I want to have cameras, meaning in the carport, the extension at the entrance area, two garden-side corners of the property that cover the house and terraces, as well as separately a dome camera in the roof overhang that then covers the light well with the basement window. Simulation is already running in Edomi.

Two ioGeek bullet cams are to be used in the distant outdoor area (they are completely black and therefore hopefully inconspicuous), better material closer to the house that also has a trigger input to connect a motion detector (although that is actually unnecessary in connection with KNX, as I just realized). I also have the hikVisions in mind.

Inside the house, I am still not sure if I want to have cameras there; the PMs for indoor monitoring have to serve first.

The only downside with the camera thing is that it doesn’t prevent a break-in but at best makes the perpetrator investigation “better.” However, I consider that more of a theoretical aspect. Still, the subjective feeling of security that can be increased with it is enough for me.

So that’s the plan.

You are right with the first half sentence. Regarding the other half, I have to say that I review these videos here. In most cases, they are night recordings with a lot of noise and low resolution, partly a mixed lighting of available light and infrared. Unfortunately, they do not serve as admissible evidence in court.
Daylight recordings are better: pay attention to the correct angle. They are often mounted above and record downward, so I only see the top of the head. But usually, it really falters at the resolution; on the phone they are okay, but on our screens they are not usable.

But your feeling of increased security is good [emoji106][emoji2]
