Hello, thank you very much - also for the clear words. Then we should consider a power storage system, that seems to me to be the only sensible thing according to your words. The thing with hydrogen is still too new for me. I just have great concerns about a longer power outage and hoped there would be a simple and cheaper solution to then use our own electricity. PS: yes, except for the lights everything runs during the day, we hardly watch any TV. The gas heating is completely turned off except for the unfortunately necessary flame for controlling solar thermal (see my other question), since we have an 8 kW wood stove, our tenant got a 6 kW wood stove years ago. We make the wood ourselves and have 10 cubic meters of dry wood lying in the garden and will collect plenty of wet wood from the forest next month. Since last year we have been doing hot water only for 3 hours a day, in summer enough comes from the roof. Our tenant follows this everywhere too, as there is not much money available there. Additional costs have really dropped enormously because of this.

Most inverters switch off the generator when the grid is down. This is intentional, for safety reasons. Otherwise, the grid operator can never be sure that the lines are de-energized.

There are inverters with island mode or emergency power function. However, this does not supply your entire household but is implemented via separate sockets on the inverter.

Storage with a suitable inverter would be a solution.

It might make sense to consider an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for a few critical consumers. This is common, for example, with PCs, and should also be sufficient for an aquarium for a while. If you really want to supply your apartment building with power for 30 hours, you might want to look into a diesel generator. That also works at night.

What actually happens with a photovoltaic system when an emergency power generator feeds in electricity? Does it then supply power again? And how does that affect the technicians who are currently repairing the broken line?

The problem with [für die Techniker] I just googled & solved: the emergency power generator is disconnected from the grid via a distribution panel. The question is just where the electricity that the photovoltaic system might be generating goes then...

Hello, yes my husband and I have now also come to the conclusion to buy a generator, that is most likely the most cost-effective solution. However, the question arises how we can feed this electricity into the household circuit. But there are already many people who have the solution for, for example, a garden shed, we will figure that out too. By the way, you can switch off the photovoltaic system at the inverter, but what happens with the electricity still produced then? No idea...
