Until when is smoking tolerated in the new building?

Hi guys,

we are a bit annoyed because the construction workers apparently smoke inside the house.
In the shell it wouldn’t bother me, but now we have the windows installed, the plaster is done, and the drywall is partially up. We’re not even talking about just one cigarette. There have been 6 cigarette butts lying on the top step since yesterday.

As committed non-smokers, we find this strange and also somewhat annoying.
Are we being too picky, or can we ask that this be stopped?

Yes, that’s a bit annoying. However, you will have little success against decades-old habits. I would avoid using pressure. It can work, but it can also backfire. I would try with a lot of kindness, respect, presence, and upright ashtrays. That should at least bring some improvement. But I’m not a militant non-smoker either.

We have informed our general contractor that no smoking is allowed anymore during the installation of the windows in the new building and that he should please pass this on to his subs. Before, I didn’t care either, but with the building now closed, I no longer find it acceptable.

I still need to clarify: First of all in a good way. Only when there is absolute stubbornness should it slowly become uncomfortable. It always depends on the person opposite. Some are also inconsiderate idiots.

And ashtrays, of course, outside ;)

But you would be bothered by that too? I'm not sure right now if I'm being too picky. Unfortunately, I notice such things relatively quickly and am a bit afraid that it will become ingrained. Also, we have white window frames, so I don't like that either. Nicotine also stains. :/

What bothers me most are cigarette butts scattered everywhere. I don't believe that anything settles or discolors there within such a short time and probably mostly open windows. At least nothing noticeable. Of course, that doesn't help you against the feeling. I stick to first always being friendly and direct. The more it bothers you and the less understanding the other person has, the shorter the patience.
