Hello everyone! I recently discussed with my wife how we are going to survive the summer in the bedroom directly under the roof... An air conditioner is too expensive for us and simply too much effort. So we came up with the idea to look for fans. Now we have found one that promises to provide an extra cooling effect with ultrasonic mist technology. Two things are important to me: Of course, I don’t want us to get practically wet in bed – the product page says that due to the ultrasonic technology the water is atomized so finely that it doesn’t feel damp but rather has the consistency of wax. Do you know about this, do you also have a misting fan? How do you perceive the mist? Also, it is important to me that my wife and I can still sleep despite the fan being on. With 48 dB this model is quieter than others. Still, I can’t really imagine what this number means... can you sleep with a noise level of 48 dB? Thanks in advance for your opinions! Henry

My first thought was "April Fool's joke," but such things apparently do exist.

The bearing of this thing will wear out over time and become "louder." But it's less disturbing because of the sound pressure and more because the frequency of the "wind noise" increasingly "flutters." Pulsating influences are perceived as more disturbing than steady ones.

Additionally, there are speed fluctuations during normal operation (or even "intentionally" due to control), which sometimes harmonize well with one's sleep rhythm (or interfere). On some days, the sleep phases and the device's speed fluctuations align, and you sleep through; on other days, you either can't fall asleep or wake up in the middle of the night and want to smash the thing against the wall out of anger.

From any little machine that's supposed to operate in the bedroom, I would rather expect a disturbance in case of doubt. Whether it may be "quieter" by measured values than a passing moped, that's useless to anyone.

So the experiences of buyers of such devices say it all. In other words, hmm, actually only nice to look at but nothing more than a usual fan. I know similar devices from amusement parks. There, the waiting people in the scorching heat are sprayed with it, which actually brings cooling, but those are then large fans and also liters of water.

I don’t know if it can be compared – in winter we had an ultrasound nebulizer here to humidify the room air. The mist was not wet, just pleasantly cool. Only if you held your hand directly in front of the outlet for a long time could you notice a very slight moisture. I just want to point out that these devices, if it’s the same technology, can quickly become breeding grounds for germs and sometimes pose a health risk. We operated and cleaned our nebulizer strictly according to instructions, yet the interior became slimy after a few days and the room air smelled strange. So we got rid of the thing quickly.

By the way, we have had a ceiling fan above the bed for many years, it’s great and very pleasantly quiet even on the lowest setting. The breeze is also perfect for sleeping on muggy warm summer days.

I agree with my predecessors. It is basically a fan that has a nozzle for misting in the middle of the protective grille (connected to a hose with a water source), comparable to a humidifier or cold inhalation device. With cold inhalation devices, the nozzles are supposed to be replaced every time due to germ formation, which can cause respiratory diseases. I have often seen such devices in regions that have warm and dry air in summer. It makes the air pleasantly cool and humid for breathing. It is rather unsuitable for warm and humid environments like summer days in Germany. has already explained the noise in detail.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the answers! My wife and I will just try it now. I can then report back. and : There are often problems with germ formation with normal spray fans, I have read that several times now. But not with an ULTRASONIC spray mist fan. Because the ultrasonic technology kills all the germs.
