So what... I wouldn't make major investments in 22-year-old windows regarding replacing the locking mechanism for 300/window.
The money is spent, and then comes the one (of many) who simply breaks the glass.
I have also seen broken-into high-quality windows with mushroom locks, albeit less often.

I once watched the upgrade on YouTube: certainly the right thing for some. Still, these are all promotional videos from those who want to sell security.

Basically, I am of the opinion: If a professional criminal really wants to get in somewhere, then they will get in. An ordinary single-family house just can't really protect against that, and we don't have the money to turn the house into a high-security facility. But I also hope that the house or we hardly give the impression that wealthy millionaires live here or that there is something worth stealing that would make a professional break-in appear lucrative. I just don't believe that. But a quiet outskirts location, the possibility to work rather undisturbed behind the house, that is just there...

But I am also rather shocked about what the retrofitting is supposed to cost. Spending over 3000 euros just on retrofitting doesn't seem very sensible to me either. For over 3000 euros, I might just get 5 new, really good windows?
