Hello. I am interested in your experience with the interior doors. We are considering whether everywhere

a) ground floor utility room with central ventilation system and gas heating
b) upstairs bathroom with washing machine and dryer
c) other room doors

doors with hollow chipboard are sufficient regarding the noise level.

Do you have experience with the noise that passes through your room doors? Are doors with hollow chipboard sufficient everywhere or are you dissatisfied with them somewhere in your house?

I think that's a great question, so I'll join in.....do people still install proper boiler room doors to the utility rooms nowadays if there is an air heat pump (outdoor installation) and a controlled residential ventilation system in there?

What brick thickness would you choose accordingly for the utility room?

No, normal interior doors are completely sufficient for the utility room partition. Sound insulation also plays no role, both the air-water heat pump and gas heaters are almost silent. Is a controlled residential ventilation system loud? I don't think so either. The loudest thing in our utility room is actually the dryer. So, nothing that would particularly need soundproofing. So for us these are sufficient: in the basement oil heating with burner, washing machine and dryer. You can hear something very quietly, but minimal and it does not bother.

Honeycomb core < hollow chipboard core < hollow chipboard < solid chipboard < solid wood...

The price difference up to solid chipboard is almost negligible. After that, it gets really expensive.

What also helps a lot are soundproof strips that seal the gap under the door. Especially in rooms with heat pumps, workshops, washing machines, possibly showers, and the like.

But it’s all useless if there is a central ventilation system. Then you have to opt for expensive frames with insulated overflow openings for good sound insulation. Otherwise, hollow chipboard core is sufficient, because you won’t get it quiet.

Thank you very much for your experiences. Chipboard is therefore sufficient.

I am still a bit unsure about the upstairs bathroom, since a washing machine and dryer will also be running there and the bedrooms are also upstairs. Would you perhaps still prefer to install a soundproof door there? We would manage the overflow due to the controlled residential ventilation with an overflow floor lowering seal built into the door.
