Hello everyone,

soon the construction of our single-family house with around 150 m² of living space will begin. We have underfloor heating on both floors and are considering the flooring.

Visually and tactilely, we are very attracted to the natural travertine stone (tumbled). It is to be laid in a Roman pattern.

From my point of view, the following work is required:

[*]Preparation and priming of the floor
[*]Laying the tiles with special natural stone tile adhesive
    [*]Impregnating the entire area
[*]Grouting the entire area – this also means filling the open pores of the tiles

Does anyone have experience with what effective costs can be expected here for an area of 150 m² with full subcontracting? The material price is often not the decisive factor, but the labor cost. As I see it, some additional work would be required here that would not be necessary with "normal" tiles.

Thanks for your assessment.

Regards

Enno

I simply recommend obtaining a quote. Hardly anyone will be able to tell you a price.

We also decided on travertine. We procured the travertine, adhesive, and grout on our own (at jonastone). Our builder credited us accordingly for this. He then took over the installation at no extra cost. We were very satisfied. Regards, Steffi.

Hey Steffi, We also think such a travertine floor is great. Can you share your experiences regarding care with me? How often do you impregnate the floor, how much time does it take, where did you buy the floor, does the floor always look dirty?

I hope I misunderstood that the entire area is to be "paved" with the natural stone seriously (?)
An accent ceases to be one if you overdose it.

Hello Vicky, we are very satisfied with our travertine and it is often admired. It was impregnated immediately after laying (2017) and not since. It didn’t seem necessary to me so far. Dirt is practically not visible. Of course, this is "dangerous," which is why I actually clean too rarely. It is important to have a dirt-repellent grout in the perfectly matching color. Warning, do not cover with painter’s foil during the construction phase!! This can lead to mold spots that cannot be removed! PS. We ordered from Jonastone... price per sqm approx. 42 EUR. The living/sleeping rooms we equipped with floorboards, as stone was too cold and hard for us. Best regards, Steffi
