Hello,

Every carefully built solid house passes this test without problems.

I never wrote that it "makes you sick"; but very well that it requires a higher investment to regulate the moisture inside the house. You encounter the same phenomenon in single-family houses built with classic ETICS.

Rhenish regards

It's as the building expert says.

With appropriate ventilation regulation, the foil is not a problem – without it, however, it can become quite tricky – then the residents have to ventilate very well manually...

The foil does not make you sick, it at most leads to increased humidity if the above-mentioned points are not considered.

Regards,

Dirk

That may be so - however, to have comparable U-values, I need a significantly thicker wall construction - or expensive filled bricks.

That may all be true. However, a controlled residential ventilation system reduces ventilation losses and provides a significant comfort gain during the cold season.

One also often hears about problems caused by insufficient/incorrect ventilation in masonry houses without ETICS - for those with ETICS even more so.

With a controlled residential ventilation system, the issue of excessive humidity is generally resolved.

I am just very amused by the views on plastic in the walls ("creepy and unhealthy," etc.). In masonry houses with ETICS, the plastic is simply in front of the wall instead of inside it -)

Best regards

I don’t know if controlled residential ventilation is a gain in comfort. We have one, and it’s useless. We have now turned it off. Why? Quite simply because we have the opposite of too humid air. Namely, too dry. And that is just as bad for the respiratory system, especially when you have children. Constantly dry noses, constantly scratching in the throat, my daughters, who have been in the house since they were babies, had an irritating cough almost continuously from autumn to spring. The whole thing only improved when we turned off the ventilation.
And fresh air from outside is still better than the air from the ducts. Even when the system was running, we constantly opened doors and windows because the air from outside is simply more pleasant - especially after rain - it also smells completely different.
We now live in a detached house built in 2008. Now we are building solid (without any wall insulation) and the only ventilations we will have will be in the bathrooms and in the utility room - decentralized.

Funny thing...

Actually, only outside air comes into the building through the ventilation system - well, possibly preheated, but that shouldn't have any effect on the humidity.

Or do you have a dehumidifier installed somewhere?
