Hello everyone

We built a new house last year. Two large lift-and-slide doors (plastic windows, 2.10 m wide) were installed in the living room. Because the doors are very difficult to open, technicians have already been here 3 times. The tricky thing is that after their visit the doors open perfectly, but already 12 hours later they stick again. I have never heard before that someone had problems with lift-and-slide doors, or does anyone else know this? and if so, has the problem ever been resolved?

Best regards

Sliding lift-and-slide doors are easily lifted with the window handle and then roll horizontally into the desired position. If the doors stick, it is because the rolling movement is impaired; this can have various reasons: - Obstruction in the running track (dirt, dust, carpet fibers: the wheels can stick; running track is warped: the wheels do not run straight, can jam) - Wheel malfunction (not properly oiled/lubricated, mechanical defect) More cannot be said from the forum. If the craftsmen cannot fix the problem, ask the manufacturer of the window system; perhaps the company can send a technical service technician – they usually know their doors better than the craftsmen.

Hello Hartweck,

thank you very much for your response and your recommendation, which I will gladly follow. How likely do you think it is that the frame of the entire window could warp? The installers hinted at this during their last visit and blamed the dark aluminum cladding on the outside for it.

Best regards

If the window has been properly constructed, the window will not warp. The aluminum cladding (of the profiles: plastic-aluminum windows?) can hardly cause a thermal deterioration of the profiles, as the plastic frames act as thermal insulation through their hollow chambers. The lightweight metal support profiles inside the frame profiles can actually only become skewed due to mechanical errors in the entire construction; however, in that case, the window would have been incorrectly built and glazed.

Let's see what the manufacturing company says.

We also had a hard time with these lift and slide doors. They were also difficult to open. After each repair, they worked fine for a day, then the problem occurred again. It was simply enough to drive you crazy.

So I always checked the running tracks, but they were clean. Then one of the installers realized that the problem was with the running track. It was then replaced and since then it has been working.
