Hello everyone,

so far I have been able to learn a lot from the knowledge already collected here, but I have not found anything about textile screens yet.

I am currently considering which option for external shading would be the most sensible and affordable.

To combine the advantages and disadvantages of venetian blinds and roller shutters, I originally planned to use venetian blinds on the ground floor and roller shutters on the upper floor.

However, I have noticed textile screens on two newer houses in the area (about 2-3 years old, very modern architect-designed houses). I like their appearance very much and they also sound very interesting on the manufacturers’ websites. Unfortunately, I have not found any reviews about them. Does anyone here have experience with them and can tell me something about durability and weather resistance (thunderstorms, does it have to be maintained after rain until the fabric is dry before the screen can be raised?)? So far I have not found any disadvantages but why are they used so rarely then? Do they also offer burglary protection?

I hope I am in the right place with this question and that someone can help me.

Sunny greetings

Do textile screens combine the disadvantages of venetian blinds and roller shutters? Neither proper darkening nor light control?

I think you can also mess up there... I mean, I seem to remember that our school had those things that could be pulled over the windows like cap visors... with every storm, 2 were broken and they were dirty too. If done properly, though, definitely not so problematic. Otherwise, see the post above.

Hi.

We have decided on aluminum roller shutters. They are supposed to have fewer problems with expansion, but I have not yet compared the thermal expansion coefficients. Plastic roller shutters are only offered up to a certain window width. Beyond that, they are not stable enough and have to be divided, so for example, an additional guide rail is installed at the middle post. The difference in stiffness is very noticeable when you can hold the two variants comparatively in your hands.

How is it with aluminum roller shutters? I could imagine that they do not expand as much.

We probably foamed aluminum... the largest element is 3 m x 2.25 m - alternatively, 2 next to each other with 2 m x 2.25 m. Does that count as large? So far it’s still going fine, though it’s not that old yet.
