Terrace

Hello everyone,
I am new here and have a question right away. I want to create a terrace in my garden, solidly concreted and then with a tiled surface, it should be about 12m² in size.
Do you need a building permit for that or something similar?

Hello DIY enthusiast, you cannot just build a terrace in your garden; the state building codes and neighbor laws in DE regulate when, where, and how a terrace may be built. If you tell me your federal state, I can look up the regulations for you (or you can simply inquire at the local building authority).

This is considered new construction and must be approved. But at this size, it is not a problem. Just go to the building authority and submit the documents. The approval is basically a formality.

The construction of a terrace is a structural ancillary facility. According to the Neighboring Rights Act, terraces may only be built if the neighbor has given their consent. The distance must not be less than 2.50 m from the property boundary.

I can confirm that, and some who simply built the terrace without permission had to tear it down or dismantle it. I know some of these cases.

This is getting crazier and crazier when a building permit is required for a terrace. Usually, the terrace is attached to an exterior door. That is actually far away from the neighboring property.
