But I don’t think the answers from are that bad. In any case, they fit well with the very incomplete information from the OP. So why not speculate, as long as it is not clear what exactly is to be built and what the existing situation looks like?

Yes, maybe. But it would be a small terrace roof if the semi-detached house is 7m wide, the roof must have a 2m distance from the boundary, and may only extend 1.5m beyond the outer wall. 5m*1.5m=7.5m² is certainly exempt from approval. On the other hand, even this roof could no longer be considered subordinate, as its width is more than 2/3 of the outer wall. Although that doesn’t matter anyway, because a wall (and with the terrace roof one assumes a fictitious wall) that is no longer than 5m anyway only triggers a 2m deep clearance area (§5, para. 7, last sentence).

Look in the building regulations of your federal state. They state exactly when you need a permit and what boundary construction is possible.
