Hello,

a quick question about terrace coverings. We have planned to cover the terrace with Walaba wood (reservoir wood). The terrace is 8 (along the house) x 6 (away from the house). The 8m should be divided into segments of 4m and 4m. Now the supplier tells us he initially does not provide boards > 4m!

He has now offered us Guyana Teak (also reservoir wood). The dealer says it is exactly the same as Walaba, just from a different reservoir. He could not show us a sample of how it looks after 6 months. Does anyone have experience with Guyana Teak?

As a second alternative, he also offered us Itauba. Has anyone also had experience with Itauba?

In our circle of acquaintances, no one has Walaba or Itauba as terrace covering. Therefore, we would be happy if you could share your experiences with us. Thanks!!!

Hi!

The thread is old - but the topic is basically still "current". Does anyone here know the Stauseeholz variants?

- Walaba
- Guyana Teak
- Fava

We are interested in Guyana Teak. The substructure would be made of aluminum or Walaba.

Regards!

This is a wood like any other such as [Walaba]. It does not come from the reservoir but is managed normally. It holds up great but resins a lot. Like other woods, it also turns gray without maintenance. So oil it every year and occasionally sand off the resin. Therefore, we decided on Ipe. It was significantly cheaper. Substructure made of Bongossi – lasts longer and is not as expensive.

I have had no experience with the others so far. But they are all probably similar. There is hardly any wood left from reservoirs. They have all already been used.

I have had very good experiences with Itauba, it is a wood with a high density and therefore very durable.

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting - where did you get this info? Do you have a link or something like that? Our dealer told us differently...

We are aware that all woods turn gray if they are not maintained - and that’s not a problem. Either you maintain them or you get the (also very nice) gray look. Guyana Teak apparently doesn’t resin as much as Walaba and we also liked it better in terms of grain (calmer). It costs about 13 EUR per running meter, I think absolutely comparable to the other hardwoods.

Best regards!

I get my terrace wood directly from the wholesaler/importer in Bremen. Almost directly from the source. Only self-pickup. Thus, also somewhat different advice than at specialized retailers (also no showroom, but rather dozens of football fields full of wood). Conclusion from various conversations: if the wood is allowed to turn gray and should be hard/durable, look at the price and not the type of wood. Later, almost everything looks the same, and with oil you get the color you want anyway. Also, don’t be blinded by any cultivation promises. Since I had to sell the house again after a short time, I don’t know if I still have any documents. Property. As a good specialized retailer, I have also come to know Holzwurm Obersayn.
