We paid 1590 plus VAT for our upgrade from beech to oak mosaic white limewashed + side panels and slats painted white. So just under 2000 as well.

Man, always these mathematicians – they already made my life difficult in school...

But seriously: Even if the steps are really all perfectly straight, that can’t quite add up. My steps, for example, are 32.5 cm. Then I only get 3 steps out of a square meter. With a spiral staircase it looks quite different again, when you adjust the steps so that with finger-jointed boards there is always a whole finger-joint at the front. There is quite a lot of waste with that.

Well ... material consumption is calculated based on the stair layout. A spiral staircase requires a rather unfavorable cut for many steps. In general, we know far too little about the staircase for anyone here to assess the additional cost. Is there possibly a railing included? As mentioned, staircase shape. The additional cost had somewhat relativized after the statement about the staircase with 2 floors. Although the surcharge still seems a bit high. I searched for prices once. You can find a price list from Treppen Junge from 2018, which shows a flat 40% surcharge for oak.

Removing the staircase is always a tricky matter. Does it still fit now? Temporary staircase possible? Coordination of staircase dimensions and overall floor construction etc.

yes, a staircase has quite a few points of contact with other interface trades. I would also give it some thought.

I assume the surcharge is from finger-jointed beech to continuous lamella oak? Overall still pretty steep though – whereas in the local private timber trade the former is offered at €80, the latter at €230 (40mm, per m²). Not absolutely relevant, but in relation to the classification

We also had finger-jointed beech on offer. Terrible.
The surcharge would have been similar.
We then have the alternative: stained beech, but not finger-jointed, rather consistently grained (I don't have the technical term at hand).
It then cost us a pretty penny. Maybe 1000... I don't remember anymore.
We are very satisfied with our choice.

My double-spiral staircase with 17 steps has an additional cost from beech to oak of 1000 euros net for the material. The price for oiling or varnishing was the same: 800 euros.
