Hello everyone,

what dimensions would an "S-shaped" staircase with two opposite 1/4 turns need to have (see attachment) for it to "work". We would like a slightly wider tread surface (about 115 cm). The rise height can certainly be between 19-19.5 cm, that would not be a problem.

Are the costs significantly higher than for a normal 1/4-turn staircase?

What floor height (not room height) has to be overcome?

And curious as I am, I would be interested in the surrounding floor plan where such a staircase would be suitable.

Assume a height to be overcome of about 285cm. (Room height 2.50m plus floor slab including upper floor flooring) A straight staircase can be calculated relatively easily if you know the rise height and tread depth. However, I unfortunately cannot estimate how much the two opposite quarter turns will affect it. Do you think a total length (in the picture from left to right) of 370-380cm and a total width (in the picture from top to bottom) of 190-200cm will be enough?

If it should only be 190 to 200 cm wide, then the stair tread and exit at the top are each only about 40 cm if the staircase is to have a walking width of 115 cm. I calculated with 16 risers, which results in the following picture: 390 cm and width 165 plus 37 = 202 cm, because you just have to imagine the 37 cm wide piece at the bottom right of the staircase. -------------- I would really be interested in the spatial situation where such a stair shape can be used ops:

Thank you very much for your effort! The width would be fine. A tread width of 110cm would also be completely OK. With 17.8/27.4, the staircase is very comfortable. Could we save some space with 15 risers? (How much?) As mentioned, 19cm riser height is perfectly fine. We have already walked it and found it not disturbing but completely OK.

285cm : 16 = 17.8cm (your example above)
285cm : 15 = 19.0cm

Hmm.. and, where would such a staircase be used? I just can't imagine it.
