Hi,
first of all: I am not very familiar with electrics and circuits. That’s why we left everything to the trade. Back then we built with a general contractor (GÜ) who selected the trades. We relied on them knowing what they were doing...
Since we moved into our newly built single-family house in 2017, there have always been problems with the motion sensors (BM) in the stairwell.
We have 13 LED lamps (6 to the upper floor, 7 to the basement) on three motion sensors (one each on the upper floor/ground floor/basement).
The problem we have is that the lamps do not turn off again. When you walk past the motion sensor, you sometimes hear the clicking sound change. So you could say, "It’s about to not turn off again." After a few days, the light does turn off again, and when it gets dark again in the evening, the motion sensors act up again and don’t switch off.
According to the electrician from the general contractor, the sensors apparently break down quickly. That’s why one was occasionally replaced during the first two years. But the problem always occurred again. Then it was said that they didn’t know where the fault lay.
I then disconnected the motion sensor in the basement and it worked without problems for about a year. For a few months now, one is acting up again.
I have now taken a closer look at it...
We have the Legrand Valena Life (752073) 3-wire motion sensor. When I look up the description of this sensor on Elektroland on the Internet, it says "Only intended for single operation (no parallel connection of sensors possible)".
Apparently it is possible after all, but maybe also the reason why these things break or don’t work properly.
There is also the 752172 from Legrand but here too it says in the description "max. 2 in parallel". And it is only a 2-wire.
Now the questions:
1. In my opinion, it is not possible (at least not without problems) to operate the mentioned motion sensors as a 3-way parallel connection.
2. Can you tell me a motion sensor that I can use instead?
3. 2- or 3-wire? A 3-wire is installed and 3 wires are connected, so I think 3-wire is correct...
Best regards
Sebastian
