Space between garage and neighbor

Hello everyone,

we are pretty much done with our planning for the house and garage. One question still remains open. How close should our garage be to the neighbor's property!? Should we place the garage directly at the neighbor's fence or leave a narrow strip (maybe 0.5m!?) for a roof edge or something similar? We are quite uncertain about this. The construction company says it is quite common to build right up to the boundary. But what about moisture, for example? The house is quite unprotected there, isn't it?

1) The garage has no roof overhang on the side. 2) The property allows for a shift of up to 1m away from the neighbor's fence. 3) The neighbor has a fence there. I completely agree with you. My only question is, does it make sense to build directly at the fence or is it better to leave a narrow strip free? Purely from the perspective of protection against moisture, dirt, restoration, etc.

I would build up to the boundary on a small plot if there is no overhang or gutter. If you leave the strip, it will become overgrown over time. There is no such thing as "protection" of the wall. On a large plot, I would leave a path to walk through.
