Hello,

in our guest room / office in the basement, a wastewater pipe runs from the ceiling to the floor slab in a corner. We have decoupled HT plastic pipes installed.

We now want to build a drywall enclosure around this pipe and additionally insulate the pipe. This pipe carries wastewater from the kitchen sink and dishwasher.

Our question now is:

The space between the drywall and the pipe:

- fill with mineral wool?

- put a "soundproof cover" over the pipe? Where can one get such a thing?

- use other insulation material?

We are grateful for any advice.

Regards,

Dirk

We have a similar case - my plan consists of mass - so with double-layered drywall walls and I wanted to fill them with insulation material to prevent any vibrations from being transmitted, If you have something better - feel free

So our sanitation guy covered them with flange protection sleeves. We then simply clad them with drywall. Let's see how loud it really is.

The most important thing is that the sound cannot be transmitted directly. ==> Wrap the pipe (with a cover, fleece or similar) so that nothing touches! Otherwise, only mass helps, so encase it in masonry. Or rebuild with (preferably thick) drywall.

In the kitchen, we wrapped the soundproofing pipe with rock wool + 15mm OSB and 10mm gypsum fiberboard. It all works so well that after completion, I sometimes thought we had only wrapped a ventilation pipe for the water line. However, I probably wouldn't have gone to so much trouble if this construction, except for the rock wool, had not been necessary for other reasons anyway. In the pantry, we have a wastewater pipe, which we simply boxed in with OSB and drywall... it makes quite a noise when someone washes up upstairs. But it doesn't bother us since it's the pantry.
