Hello dear forum readers,

we are looking for help with a decision aid on how and what we should/want to build?

Solid house stone by stone, the ecological wooden house, or the house from a well-known home builder on the market who also builds KFW 55 but also uses plastic, glass wool, and styrofoam in the wall structure.

Our current favorite is a wooden house builder who has a good reputation in the region but also wants to be paid accordingly. After a longer consultation in a show house of a large home building company, we were advised to think about what is really important to us in a house. Should the shell be ecologically impeccable, or can it be built somewhat cheaper but still achieve the same values or subsidies? Sure, that saves money... but how did you decide?

We would be very happy about a few tips and remain

With best regards

Ecology is not completely unimportant to me either, although I am not an eco freak. But that's why I have a pretty good feeling with a solid house. Aerated concrete is not toxic like stone, cement, lime, sand, air. The exterior plaster is also mineral-based. Insulation with Styrofoam is not necessary. Ok, I think there is polystyrene under the screed. But the Knauf insulation, which insulates the roof, is purely mineral and eco-friendly. Of course, our windows are made of plastic, probably PVC profiles, but wooden windows are really too expensive for me. The interior plaster made of gypsum and lime-cement is harmless, as is the drywall on the ceiling. The house has a charm, this type of construction is affordable. 110 sqm for 163 thousand. I overlook the compromises with windows, for example. Karsten

Hello! Our house is also from a local house builder. It has now become ecological, we quite like it that way. At first you look at the money, then at the details. He was not the cheapest provider, but the overall concept fit.

The association "ecological" = "wooden house" seems to me as naive as it is popular. I’m not sure whether it’s a belief in the good in plant fiber, or whether city children mentally picture wood from free-roaming sheep ;-) Energy Saving Ordinance / KfW also means for wooden houses either insulating crap in between or material thicknesses that environmentally far surpass resource consumption to no good. Stone by stone (and nothing in front, so monolithic and especially without glued-on harmful substance reservoirs) leads to aerated concrete, or for example also to pumice (e.g. KLB climate lightweight block, or Bisotherm). Sand-lime brick is also good; personally, I like it best today in the rarely requested 2DF as exposed masonry (and double-shell). (Among others) aerated concrete is now also offered for the "solid roof" – in case one is looking for an alternative to the "yellow rolled lawn" there as well ;-)

Ecological means low in pollutants, low resource consumption in production, short transport routes, etc. to me.

Honestly, I haven't given it much thought. Our house builder does claim to be ecological, I guess.
However, the craftsmen come from the region.

The first point from hits the mark quite well. Therefore, wooden houses are often not ecological; the wood rarely comes from the region.
