Hello everyone,

does anyone have experience with soda fittings in the kitchen? That means fittings where you can carbonate tap water directly? How much does such a system cost? Or is it just a very expensive toy? Soda makers are quite cheap to get. Thank you very much

A friend of ours from the company Grohe with blue in the name... ...and since he lives on the third floor of an old building, he uses it very regularly every day. It's definitely better than carrying boxes.

But it comes at a price. The purchase was probably just under four figures, and then there are the cartridges (probably similar costs to Sodastream and co.).

I have also considered it before. However, I find the price not appropriate for a private household. A Sodamax or Sodastream or whatever they are called don’t cost much money and sparkling water can be made in less than a minute. It’s best to get the one with glass bottles, which you can also put in the fridge or take to the sofa. All in all, a fixed built-in system only seems interesting to me if there is a water purifier included or if you place importance on that. However, the quality of tap water is good enough and therefore that should not be necessary.

...or one simply lives on the 3rd floor of the old building...

You can also use the Sodastream there (so on the 3rd floor). I have been tempted by it for a long time, but have now changed my mind and will stick with my old Sodastream. Reason: we have a soda water tap in the office and if you don’t run the water for a while, you have to let it run quite a bit until you get fresh water with bubbles again. Since we are not at home during the day, we would have to let the water run too long every evening. If you then don’t draw new water for an hour or longer, it’s the same again. I think the system is very practical and good if you have a steady and above all regular flow; otherwise I would rather advise against it. There is always water in the pipe and it stands still. Also, these taps only make sense if the water is cooled at the same time. The technical effort is quite high and it takes up a lot of space under the countertop. If someone is always at home with you and the tap is regularly used, then it is a great thing. But the space for it must also be there. In a rather small kitchen, I wouldn’t want to give up urgently needed storage space for it (but of course everyone sees that differently; I am a confessed storage junkie *g*). What I think is pretty cool and what we will certainly take is a hot water tap. There you get hot water directly from the tap (with a corresponding safety device so you don’t unintentionally turn on the hot water and don’t expect it). There are also versions combinable with soda. So a tap that supplies cooled, boiling, and sparkling water. For the reasons described above, I will limit myself to the hot water and continue to carbonate my water with the Sodastreamer.

There are interesting info videos about the hot water tap on YouTube (not from the manufacturer, but from a private user). The technology etc. is also well explained there; just enter quooker as the search term.
