Hello,
I am looking for a shower tray and spent hours yesterday trying to understand which one could fit in our place.
Following situation:
- 60s house, entire upper floor (attic) including bathroom is being renovated, joist ceiling which we closed off with double-layered OSB boards
- we want to build a shower with a bench (sketch)
- we do "not need" a level-access shower - if possible, fine, if not, no problem. But the shower should be as flat as possible, meaning as low as possible from the floor
- shower will be 120 wide x 90-110 deep, we are making a shower enclosure with a door, drain centered & about 20cm from the edge (JOIST!)
Currently I have 2 craftsmen opinions:
1. We should set the shower tray directly on the tile, meaning: waterproof the OSB, then tile, then the tray.
2. We can simply lower the OSB board where we want the shower tray by its height between the joists. Meaning: lower OSB, waterproof, install tray, tile all around.
ad1) According to my research, ideally a mineral cast tray would be suitable here because I can put it directly on the tile. Is that correct?
(Acrylic & enamel: are not made in one "block," need a shower support frame which would make the entire shower even higher)
ad2) Here, from my point of view, you could take "any" level-access tray, since the OSB floor would be lowered exactly to the tray’s corresponding height. Right?
What do you think about the options?
Am I understanding everything correctly?
Thanks a lot,
best regards,
J.
