Should the wall be painted first, then roll plaster applied on it?

I'll join in because the thought is currently "on my mind" as well

The interior plaster is finished. Now the textured plaster would be applied on this plaster, as shown above in the picture, for example, the Easyputz from Knauf. And that's it? Basically like an applied woodchip wallpaper? Depending on taste, with or without the Compact Color tint.

Is that correct? Of course, the primer/sealant is applied beforehand

so we did it like this: base plaster was applied, then EL primer, and on that textured plaster and (if the wall was not to remain white) paint on top. Nothing additional on the white walls.

Hi

I just came across your topic in my bookmarks. Since we can at least paint the basement soon, I wanted to ask how your experiences were in the end.

Can you tell me why you used a sand-containing primer? Does it make a difference with roll plaster, visually? More textured?
What is the name of the primer? Honestly, I've never seen anything like that.

How was the coverage in the end? Did you find out what the reason was, or did you simply paint it again?

Regards

: So we used the appropriate primer from Knauf that is suitable for decorative plaster. It was recommended to us back then when we bought the roll plaster. This primer is already white, and our walls were all drywall or timber frame construction. We did it like this: first primer, then roll plaster, and afterwards we painted everything white again. It was more even and nicer that way. Our basement will be done soon, it is solid masonry. I think nothing will really show through there, but we also want to proceed as described above. Why the coverage wasn’t good before, I can’t judge, but a single coat after the roll plaster solved the problem.

Thank you very much, that helps me further! We also want to apply textured plaster to the drywall walls.
