I have decided to make a seamless bathroom. I have already watched some videos on the subject but cannot find anything about how to seal properly. The house is about 50 years old. I think there is no waterproofing behind the tiles. When I moved in, I had the problem that the silicone joints at the bathtub were already damaged and because of that I got wet spots on the backside in the attic... after renewing the silicone joints, everything was fine again so far. I have not showered in the bathroom for months now because my real shower has been finished and I now want to tackle the bathroom. Actually, the bathtub is no longer supposed to be used for showering. Maybe 1-2 times a year when someone is visiting. My plan: prime the tiles and then completely skim coat with a product specially suitable for wet rooms (lime plaster based on cement or something, I think that's what I bought from Knauf) and embed a fleece. Later, I want to apply an effect paint from Alpina. How do I seal correctly in the bathtub area? What sealing do I paint on the finished coated wall to make it water-resistant? Is a bathtub waterproofing even necessary if I coat the wall waterproof? Silicone joints will be done again anyway, that is clear. I really found nothing on the topic. The painters on YouTube always use products that you can only get as a professional or don’t mention them at all. Thanks, I hope someone can help me. Regards

I would not do without a joint tape in the area of the tub edge. Silicone is a maintenance joint! As for the rest: These are demanding tasks that require a lot of practice for a good to perfect result. But the expectations are certainly completely different. I would be happy to see results after implementation (preferably before <> after pictures)

The bathtub is flush with the wall. So I can only create a proper sealing surface between the bathtub and the wall with a silicone joint. For that, I would probably have to break off the tiles and place the sealing tape behind them?
