That's how it is, an acquaintance of mine got his kitchen from Ikea and paid just 4000€ for it. The kitchen itself doesn't look bad, it serves its purpose and was assembled by two people in one afternoon. Comparison offers from different kitchen builders were around 10,000€. The IKEA kitchen is certainly not quite as good in quality as those from the kitchen builders, but also not totally bad. I also have to say, if the kitchen lasts 10 years, it was an absolute bargain and at 4000€ you won't be attached to the kitchen forever. You can also "just change" it at some point. With a 10,000€ kitchen, after 10 years I probably wouldn't even think about changing it.

Ikea kitchens are quite good in terms of quality. If you want to treat yourself, you can also install brand-name appliances. However, you should be able to assemble the kitchen yourself. Otherwise, the price advantage is more or less gone. In addition, Ikea is not as flexible, or does not have as many special cabinets as a brand-name kitchen. So if you have an awkwardly shaped or small kitchen, you need to consider whether you might be better off elsewhere.

I would also rather save on things that are subject to wear and tear anyway. Unfortunately, the potential for savings there is not very large. With bathrooms, it is different, but you usually have them for 25 years or more.

We are planning our house construction ( Baubeginn ) for spring 2017. For this, we have already visited a kitchen builder and shared our ideas with him. Since he has a large showroom, it is possible for us to assemble a kitchen according to our ideas and have it installed at our place after one year in the showroom. In return, we get the kitchen at significantly better conditions and thus really save a lot of money. Of course, this is not for everyone and requires enough lead time. But it is another way to reduce costs. Friends of ours have done the same and have not regretted it...

What are you paying for your kitchen?

So I have an offer from the kitchen builder
Kitchen with
-10 running meters
-No wall cabinets
-Constructa electrical appliances (oven, hob, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer compartment)
-large hob (induction)
-extractor venting to the outside
-large sink (Silgranit)
-wooden worktop
-fronts matte lacquered

Cost around ~9000€

But I am not yet sure if the current configuration will remain as is. I might have to reconsider the worktop and cabinet fronts.
