I also agree with the architect. You should believe him; he probably has more experience than you.

Then just make the door 88.5.

It is probably not about saving 30€ on the smaller door leaf for the OP if he/she does not want an 88.5 door. I assume the 88.5 door does not fit into the concept or floor plan.

That may be. However, I can hardly imagine many situations where the additional 12.5 cm wouldn't be possible at all. It's certainly not a bad idea in principle to avoid a narrow door for the utility room either.
