Then I conclude that you have dealt little with the topic so far. Depending on the roof shape, different "wavelengths" of a roof tile / roof shingle profile may visually suit a roof pitch best. Of course, one may also treat this matter negligently or have little opinion about it - but in terms of overall aesthetics, this comes down to the same as if the color tone didn't matter. If the roof is supposed to be "beautiful," I would therefore deal with both parameters.

Which would go along with the decision for tiles.

Many manufacturers of roof tiles or shingles and also many building material dealers have sample areas. Where these stand outdoors, you can get an impression in person of how which variant looks "live" and weathered. Similar installations in showrooms / halls are, in my opinion, less meaningful, since compared to the brochure you only have the advantage of 1:1 scale. Artificially lit, colors appear differently, and unweathered, it is difficult to assess the durability.

A bit off-topic: We have Jacobi roof tiles with Avantgarde matte glaze. They are so smooth that the thinnest layer of snow slides off immediately (43° slope). At the neighbors, the roofs are white, but with us, you can see the tiles. It's annoying because small snow avalanches keep sliding off.

Yes, you are probably right. Unfortunately, the info during the sample selection was not very helpful or hardly available so far. So I will probably have to check out a few building material dealers – I know what you mean, and that is certainly the best alternative! Even though it almost makes me feel guilty... I’m not allowed to buy anything there anyway.

What would you advise for an 11x10 m roof with a roof pitch of 30° and 25° ("city villa")? By the way, the facade will be clinker/light (Wienerberger Aurora or similar), white window frames.

We tend to go for Braas Rubin 9V Volcano Black Matte Edelengobe – although black is in the name, it looks like anthracite in the pictures, just a bit "glossier"... From what I have read, engobed sounds better than glazed. Apparently, glazed ones get these microcracks over time...

From the roof pitch information, I conclude it's a hipped roof. The mentioned clinker would be a relatively colorful assortment with quite bright tones in between, and especially with white window frames, I wouldn’t overdo the darkness of the roof color (and I would even rather choose a red than a dark gray). The hint "town villa" was good, I had forgotten to mention that: of course, the building height also plays a role, in my opinion, a two-story building can handle a "shorter wavelength" profile better than a bungalow with the same roof pitch. Otherwise, I just wanted to give a nudge on what to pay attention to and what to compare on site. In my opinion, you shouldn’t sample your house because of that, so you’ll have to see for yourselves.

The surface should be smooth Glossy tiles moss and get dirty less I was a roofer for 40 years Concrete or tiles no longer make a difference nowadays The modern tiles certainly last longer than the promised 25 years You cannot compare them with those from 30-40 years ago
