Obligation to pick up or deliver? What does logic say? ;)
If you want something, a specific pavement, a certain length or width, a certain height, then you have to take care of it and say so, at least that's what common sense says.

A good one would certainly have asked you! Whether he HAS TO - I don't think so. Why did your builder already set the foundation slab 50 cm too high? That's where the real mess begins,...

You say: "Make driveway".
He makes driveway.

Whether you now want it higher, lower, wider, a castle wall, or a moat, he can't know that.
Without knowing further details, in my opinion, the paver has fulfilled his task.

Of course, he COULD have asked.

It apparently hasn't occurred to you so far (until the start of the road construction work) either. How should the paver have known that?

It's been about 6 months already. I had suspected that it might get tight. But I am an amateur and have no knowledge of craftsmanship. I thought that with the rework everything would be fine. But I find the rework to be about 25-30% of the original value already too expensive.

Then the question arises whether it could have been prevented beforehand. And in my opinion, it could have been.
That some craftsmen don't think from twelve to noon, I didn't consider.

hm so the craftsmen are supposed to do that thinking for you? quite a bold statement :p I'll pass the ball back, you suspected back then that it would be tight and didn't say anything. Why wasn’t the site manager, architect, construction supervisor involved? or too much stress?

Sender / receiver principle. Or in IT garbage in, garbage out. The craftsman only does what you say, no more and no less.
