Hello everyone!
Our garage with a basement is considered at risk of collapse according to the expert report because the reinforcements in the basement ceiling are rusted and partly exposed. So far, we have received three repair proposals from three experts. The most extreme one was: fill in the basement and rebuild the garage. Another company sees the main problem as water ingress through the dilapidated asphalt surface of the garage driveway. The conclusion is therefore to renovate the driveway. The quote is 9,700 for 95 m² including excavation, preparing the subsoil, and asphalting (considering that a knowledgeable friend of ours is helping for free). For aesthetic reasons, I would prefer paving. Now the company says that would cost DOUBLE and would not solve the moisture problem because the paving is not watertight. I don’t understand either of those. After extensive research in forums, I have not found any indication that paving would be so much more expensive. And: wouldn’t EVERYONE who paves have problems with moisture if only asphalt is watertight?? (I should also mention, I have not yet spoken with the company myself; my co-owner did). Thank you in advance for your advice!!! Anna
