Reflective film on large windows on the south side - effective?

Hello everyone, We have three very large windows in our living and dining area that face south. Accordingly, it also gets extremely warm as soon as the sun shines on them. So during the summer time, we almost always have all the blinds down, absolutely dark in here. We have now received the tip to apply mirror film on the outside. Does that really bring the desired effect? Does anyone have any experience with that? Thanks and regards
