Hello everyone,

we are about to buy furniture for the baby room
Which furniture are you happy with?
Where did you buy it?

Another question: changing table directly in the nursery or in the bathroom? Or both?

Thanks & best regards

So what I can warmly recommend is RS Möbel or, I believe in southern Germany it goes by moebeleum or something like that. They have solid wood furniture, but partly at fair prices (this also applies to the children's furniture, especially if you compare with the baby room manufacturers). In addition, the items are very well thought out, the baby crib we have from them has a side panel with a low exit. The changing table has a changing top only placed on it, so it can be used later as a normal chest of drawers.

Regarding the bathroom or children's room, of course that depends. We solved it so that the changing table is in the children's room and in the bathroom we simply have a wooden board lying on the bathtub (there would be no space for a full changing table anyway). We manage perfectly with that!

Changing table can be converted by us into a normal drawer dresser, therefore it is placed in the children's room. We are satisfied with that and a crib from Welle Möbel. For us, in several cases, looking at the furniture store followed by ordering at Möbel-günstiger Punkt de has proven effective. With the price differences, I don't even start negotiating in the furniture store...

Changing tables are usually attachments for a regular dresser. To be honest, you don't really need them. You can also do it on the carpet, sheepskin, or whatever you have. Nobody can fall off there either. We also had a heater lamp, never used it.

We had a hard time choosing furniture. In the big furniture stores, there was only junk. In the specialty store, we ended up at Paidi, but we were already disappointed with the delivery for the first children's room. Made in Germany is unfortunately just a label. We had to complain about the furniture multiple times.
For lack of alternatives, we also bought the second room from Paidi. With the same problems.

In hindsight, I can say, only buy equipment like furniture for babies/kids when the need is really there. Too much money gets wasted by thinking you need something, and in the end, it stays unused. Whether furniture, clothing, or toys.

Especially small stuff costing 20-40€ is given in abundance from all sides.

In my opinion, you need warm water for diaper changing. Whether you want to carry a bowl of warm water into the nursery x times a day is up to you.

And in the bathroom, you need a platform where you can dry and dress your child in a back-friendly position after bathing/showering.

In the apartment, we had the washing machine in the bathroom, and a cover for it, which then served as the changing table. (No, spinning is not a problem)

Here in the house, we have a Malm from Ikea; there are attachments for on top (Ebay Kleinanzeigen). Practical and cheap.

By the way, the diaper pail from Chico is worth an investment...

Since we don’t believe in those (very) expensive sets from the baby store (cheapest pressed wood, but nicely color-coordinated, brown, cream, and taupe, a mocking 1200€ for the set), we bought a used one on Ebay Kleinanzeigen. Wardrobe, shelf, and dresser, solid wood, 50€ with self-pickup. Pink. 14 years old. The wardrobe and dresser are big enough to fit larger and enough clothes. Kids’ room instead of baby room.

The crib is the one from Amazon for around 100€ with slatted sides, mattress from Aldi Nord.

We borrowed a bed side crib for the short time.

Briefly about the behavior of (my) baby. For the first days/weeks, she slept on us. Then in the bedside crib. Then in the baby crib in the bedroom. And after about a year, a bit more, in her own room. Except on weekend mornings from six, she comes to cuddle, or when she’s sick. Then also with us.

Your baby/toddler will not stay in their room. Neither for sleeping nor playing. Mother-in-law will tell you that the child’s well-being is at risk if the child does not have their own room, but that is nonsense. So you can also take care of the room calmly in about half a year to three-quarters of a year.

By the way, Lidl has great organic cotton changing bodysuits in solid colors. But that is well-known; you have to be early there.

We also have Wellemöbel and have not regretted the purchase. Changing table with attachment in the children's room. Just recently renovated the room because the bed is now too small and the changing attachment has become pointless.
