Well, I do have my thoughts about it. For example, if I have to invest €10,000 more today but can then save a good €500 per year in heating costs, I would consider it so that I am a bit more independent later on (after 20 years), although no one really knows where electricity or gas prices will go anyway.

What do you think about solar thermal houses (e.g. FASA AG), I find the concept very interesting, but it all sounds and reads to me as if it would never pay off.

We had considered that as well. However, the additional costs were significant and you lose living space. As you already said, what can you really save with energy costs of €500 per year.

Do you cook yourself? Please don't take this as a judgment, just pure interest to be able to classify the low consumption.
We, or rather my wife, sometimes use 3-6 KW just for cooking on some days.

In our forecast (which matches the actual consumption almost 100% as far as measurable) we have also included 2-3 kWh/day for cooking.

Best regards Thorsten

Then that would be 2 x 365 = 730 kWh just for cooking?

each hotplate 2 kW, 3 pots, 20 minutes are just 2 kWh per day. You can hardly save much with modern devices ;-)
