Hello everyone,

so many decisions to make.
We are getting 2 concrete staircases (ground floor to first floor to attic). The beginning is straight, the end is quarter-turn.
I like masonry parapets, my husband prefers stainless steel railings. Now, it’s also a price question. What is roughly the price difference between the two options? Or does anyone of you have a "mix" of both? For example, masonry at the bottom and railing on top or something like that?
I find it difficult to find something on the internet because most houses have only one staircase or narrower stairs.

Best regards

milkie

We have also recently dealt with the question. We solved it in such a way that the handrail of our concrete staircase from the ground floor to the upper floor is built with masonry. The parapet on the upper floor is done the same way. However, because we cannot install another concrete staircase to the attic due to structural reasons (only wooden ceiling), we will only install a better so-called space-saving staircase there. We will then execute this in beech wood and without risers, as well as the railing for it. I think it will look quite good.

Hello Milkie,

I think you can definitely mix it. Although I also like a continuous masonry parapet. I've seen several houses where the wall went from the basement all the way up to the attic and was only half-height in the attic. (Otherwise, a railing was mounted on the wall).

Many also still have a door to the basement, so the stairwell would be separated anyway.

We will probably also take a concrete staircase from the very bottom to the very top. However, I prefer a wooden or stainless steel railing. Partly because of the light incidence, and if it's only half-height on each floor, it's easier to transport things to the upper floor than if it's completely built up in the ground floor.
