Problem with rafter / roof overhang exterior painting

That is an aesthetic problem. If it gets wet, it dries at 9m height faster than you can blink. Getting wet does not harm the wood, as long as it can dry again.

Also, I can't easily get up to that height...

Welcome to the club! I won't be active for now either, it's just visually unpleasant. It only annoys me because my house is the only one on the street that looks like this. The other houses still look like they've been freshly painted white after 5 years. But as is often the case, if you don't watch the craftsman closely once, it will come back to haunt you. The problem with fixing it is that a scaffold has to be set up because the ridge is 9 meters high and there's also a light well on the side. So it's an effort that shouldn't be necessary. To top it off, the dormer is also affected.

Why a scaffold? A ladder with a spacer is enough. Last year, I painted the entire roof overhang up to the Frisian gable on our house like that. (-:
