Hello, I have been a diligent reader for quite some time and now (unfortunately) need your help. We are not quite sure how to arrange our garage and the second parking space (possibly a carport). Our plot is quite elongated (18.4 x 28m) and located on a corner. It is always somewhat disadvantageous to have a corner plot, but we chose it deliberately because with the plots in the middle, the rear neighbor is always significantly higher, but never mind. Due to the location on two streets, some possible positions are already excluded, as the garage is not allowed to be placed between the house and the street area. Furthermore, it must be set back 5.5m. Rotating the house on the plot is not really an option for us, as we have large windows spanning both full stories facing the terrace, allowing us to look out into greenery, since a bungalow will be built behind us. Otherwise, we would "only" be looking at existing buildings and the garden would be bordered by roads on two sides. A few essential facts: house dimensions 9.88 x 7.88, side entrance, so next to the garage. I have now designed the garage as a boundary structure, quite narrow (2.86m) and 8m long, to have sufficient storage space for equipment. One option would now be to build a "carport" directly next to it. The advantage would be that the entrance would also be covered (see drawing). Everything would have to be pulled back far enough so that the rear of the car passes the front door, otherwise it would be too tight. The width of the carport would be about 2.79m. We might even do without the kitchen window (we still have a large terrace door) because with the car in front and a roof overhead it would probably be too dark. Another alternative would be to build the second parking space in front of the house, but then we would have to move the house a bit further back so it is not too close to the street. We actually wanted to avoid parking both cars directly behind each other to avoid annoying maneuvering. What do you think? Do you have other ideas? Do you find the widths too narrow or would it work? Thanks for your help!

We have it similarly: access at the top right, to the garage you have to turn and the carport is straight ahead. ... But that's just by the way.... Please post the site plan with building lines and measurements, including the entire property...

It was a good tip from you to redraw everything with the boundaries! Now we have seen that it actually doesn't work that way. According to the plan, we would have to move the house back almost 9 meters to start at the farthest point of the tree boundary. Now I really don't know where to put the second parking space. Probably both have to be one behind the other or one in front of the house.

I sketched it out for myself...unfortunately, we don't know where a) south is and b) the location of the windows to which rooms. If I understand correctly, you may build 3 meters from the long side, but on the access side or corner you must maintain 5.50 meters? In my case, your house would be roughly in the middle of the 28 meters (curve/corner estimated)... then "garten2" would be an option, fully roofing between garage and entrance, thus connecting both building structures. However, the garage would lose light. Have you considered mirroring the house, entrance at the front and access via the side, garage 3 meters from the property line and on the length side 5.5 meters...? Unfortunately, you made the mistake back then of planning a house (I assume everything is fixed already?!), without taking the property into account. Ideally, you take the property and first sketch the location of the rooms (preferred orientations), entrance, and garage/carport, to then proceed to room planning later. So, where is south and where are the rooms/windows?

I have revised the plan once again and roughly drawn in the house as well as the ground floor layout so you can see where the windows are. The building boundary is 3 meters from the property line everywhere. However, garages and carports must be 5.5 meters away from the street. Actually, we first had the plot and then the house, but we never really thought about the garage. The motto was it will somehow work out. Regarding your suggestion, we consciously decided on a door on the side because we believe that 90% of the time you get out of the car and then go into the house, to keep the distances short. Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok, SO you should already have 5 to 6 meters of space, then with garage edge development, as already described. I wanted to upload two pictures for you, showing how much 2 meters between the house and the garage really are or seem, unfortunately they are too large. But they can be viewed on my blog, you have to go through my profile and then scroll to the garden work on the linked blog. Then in front of the house (utility room and WC) a nice parking space. If you are planning a carport, then you have to move the house further to the SW (5.50 + carport width). Good luck!
