Pool technology, where to plan for it in later pool construction

Pool or small swimming pool? The "normal" pool with 4.50m diameter or similar does not require such large amounts of equipment. But if it will hold tens of thousands of liters, then a pool planner should be able to provide qualified answers tailored to the exact project. What do you actually want to build and spend?

A classic pool is about 8x3 meters. Here, a minimum amount of technology is necessary. Filter + pump. Dosing system, automatic backwashing, etc. increase comfort. Done properly and comfortably, you can expect starting at around 25k. If you want a steel wall pool, it is significantly cheaper but more expensive to maintain. It's basically a more stable paddling pool. That’s probably what nordanney means.

Solveigh will know how big the pool is supposed to be. The rest is guessing.

Thank you very much for the detailed answers. The pool should be approximately 8.00m x 4.00m, as Rick mentioned, fully embedded in the ground and surrounded by terrace slabs. A pool heater and counter-current system would be great, but certainly not cheap.

Attached is an early sketch of our garden design. The sliding wooden deck was just an idea, but we have already discarded it.

thanks for posting your plan.
Seems like a great property.
A movable deck is nice but really expensive. You probably scrapped that idea because of that.
For an 8-meter pool, a counter-current system is a must if you want to swim properly.
Nowadays, water depth is usually set at a max of 1.40 meters. More depth doesn’t add value for swimming but increases the effort (larger filters, pumps, heating costs, etc.) due to the larger water volume.
Since you are far enough from the house, a subsequent installation of the pool is quite possible. In addition to the construction space, about 1 meter of installation space around the pool is needed (which will later be buried and covered). Have you already thought about what kind of pool it should be or how the surface water will be drained? With normal skimmers, you would have a quite large height difference between the terrace slabs and the water level. Flush skimmers are more expensive but the difference is not as big anymore. Alternatively, you could also make a channel around the pool. In plastic, it doesn’t look very good. Stainless steel is expensive... but then you would almost be at the same level as the slabs. An overflow pool is not suitable for you and is even more expensive.

Under your deck would be a good place for the technology. I would definitely have this room included during the house construction. The waterline of the pool should be below the ceiling of the technology room. Otherwise, the compensation tank won’t work.
Here you need:
- Electricity (230V and 400V) for pumps, filters, dosing systems, pool cover, underwater lights...
- Water
- Wastewater
- Optional LAN
- Optional heating connection

On/at the deck, sockets and water connections for pool robots and cleaning from the pool robot or high-pressure cleaner...

You should already think about the heating system now. If you have a gas heating system, the easiest would be to lay an additional line and buy a significantly larger boiler. Later, a large heat exchanger will be connected to the line.
Alternatively, you could install a heat pump later and hide it in the garden. It just has to be winterized... Or classic with collectors. In my opinion, it looks bad if you can’t hide them on a roof.

Thank you Rick for the detailed answer. The plot is indeed not bad, it just has the downside of a 16m height difference. That’s also why the garden is planned so early. Although at this early stage (ahem, 2.5 years of planning time) you never know if there will be any money left for a pool at the end of the construction? That’s why I don’t really want to bother specialist companies with detailed questions yet, since I don’t know if I can even commission them. How is this typically handled on construction sites with things where you don’t yet know if you can even commission them??

Swimming, yes, a counter-current system would then have to be installed. A water depth of 1.40m is sufficient. A surface skimmer should be enough, a channel at the top and an overflow are not necessary. Heating is mandatory, brr! However, we have planned an air heat pump for the house and sized it only for the house. Photovoltaics will go on the house roof, with battery storage. Would a separate heat pump have to be installed for the pool?
