So first of all, an architect designed our house! He designed my parents' house and my brother's house. The draft is not quite finished yet. Hmm, I tried yesterday to draw the house in 3D, but I know far too little about that. Too bad. Unfortunately, you can't view this house like that either because these are our thought processes. Well, now let's just wait and when the house is finished, I will upload some pictures. But that will take about 1 1/2 years ;-)

You seem to have not read my comments correctly. You can definitely plan in such a way that a complete reconstruction is not necessary and the upper floor does not lie fallow, as I would, for example, rent it out and would have xxx EUR more for traveling etc. You just won’t find something like that in all the standard floor plans, because no one makes the effort and invests the corresponding brainpower.

But luckily everyone has their own thing... It's just my own opinion.

Hello,

I agree with the previous speakers that an accessible ground floor is very important. There are many reasons that tie you to the ground floor. And who wants to sell their house just because, for example, they can't manage the stairs well for half a year due to a herniated disc. So we have installed 1.01m wide doors in our ground floor and a full bathroom on the ground floor. In case of need, the study would then become a bedroom.

BratacDD, I can only agree with you. I think and see it very much the same way. Finally someone who can understand my train of thought :)

So somehow.... well, I don’t know. My grandparents are 80 and still live on 2 floors... my new neighbors are all over 80 and still live on 3 floors. If you take care of yourself, you can still climb stairs even into old age. If it no longer works, you have to take action and sell.

not completely... but still in such a way that you have to put up a few walls, install a new bathroom on the ground floor, have to convert the staircase in case of rental, etc...

For these costs, you could probably also install an elevator... with the advantage of not having strangers in your house and not having to live in 70m²...

Being reduced from a 130m² house that you have for yourself to a 70m² apartment and still having to live with the additional noise from above is not exactly an elegant solution in my opinion... especially not if I am already making compromises in advance with which I have to live for years without any necessity..

I'm not saying that you shouldn't think about barrier-free living! That is definitely an important topic, even if you are still young! wide passages, level-access shower, etc... but before I convert a single-family house into 2 small residential units, I would rather look for other/better solutions....
