Hello,

We are currently carrying out a complete renovation of our house. Since an additional floor is being added, we also want to install a central vacuum system... but which one? Here are the key details: The lower floor is about 100m², the new construction about 60m² (1st floor), longest distance downstairs 11.20m and upstairs 7.10m. The central unit can be installed in the basement but doesn’t have to be, since the garage is about 4m away from the house, so a line can also be laid into the basement.

My idea was to install 2 vacuum inlets on the ground floor plus a sweep inlet in the kitchen baseboard, on the 1st floor only one in the hallway and possibly one in the garage to vacuum the cars as well.

Of course, I’ve already read quite a bit here and found some information elsewhere on the web, but you notice that every house and its occupants have their own requirements. I will install it myself since I do almost everything else myself as well.

What I want to know……...

Which companies should it be? How strong (Airwatt) should the vacuum be? Do the manufacturer’s pipes have to be used, or would 50mm HT pipes with double sealing also work? etc.

Budget about €5000, if necessary a bit more.

If you need more information … plans etc., I can gladly post them.

Best regards, Markus

Hello Markus,

often the providers help with the planning, just ask a provider.
We bought an Electrolux from Fawas with the manufacturer pipes. They helped us a lot with the planning. They also have good experience regarding performance.
You have to consider that the wall boxes must also fit the vacuum cleaner pipe. These must then match the pipe system. Therefore, the pipes from the manufacturer are recommended.
If you install it yourself, you will probably come to about €1500, depending on the equipment and manufacturer.

I cannot give a recommendation yet, the system is not yet in operation.

Best regards
Joachim

Hey Joachim

The Fawas vacuum cleaners are supposed to be really good, I will ask the manufacturer anyway. But and that's always the case.... they want to sell.

I think that experiences and tips from the end customer are priceless, which advisor has experience with the products? Usually the wives who use them and the men who install them.

I just hope that someone here can say... this much power is enough and that is unnecessary.... as I said, the advisors just want to sell the product, no offense meant here either.

Best regards Markus

Oh, I forgot to add....
1500€ is still "affordable," since I really have no insight into how much a proper system costs and above all what is a must-have and what is just gimmicks, I simply assumed 5000€. Since all family members have the house dust problem and we want to reduce the burden a bit, we thought of the solution with the central vacuum. Our architect showed us his once... it's really a great thing, hardly any noise, less dust, and above all no power cords coming out of the vacuum – these are all things that gave us the idea.

Exhausting the air outside is no problem since the house is detached; only one side would be less favorable but still feasible.

There are many open questions that come up gradually...

Exhaust sound dampers... suction hose length... 1 or 2 hoses... textile cover of the hose... and so on and so forth.

What MUST be is a control line and no radio. Since a control with a BUS system might also be installed, I want to keep it without radio links... only WLAN should be available; the rest wired.

I have one from allaway and am also very satisfied with it. You should just consider a suction hose with an on/off switch on the handle because otherwise you can only turn off the vacuum by pulling the suction hose out of the suction socket, which became annoying after a while when you were in the farthest corner of the children's room and wanted to tidy something up first or wanted to move the couch in the living room and had to go to the hallway to pull the hose to turn it off. (Don’t know how the selection is with Fawas) What I liked was the easy installation and the "cross" in the suction socket where, for example, children's building blocks get stuck if you vacuum them up and they do not get into the pipe system.

You have to learn the handling with the hose, for my wife (165 cm tall) it is very inconvenient to carry the telescopic suction tube in her hand and the 8-meter hose rolled into 3 loops over her shoulder up the stairs; she always leaves that to me (at 190 cm height it is easier to carry). Therefore, we got two hoses (ground floor and upper floor). And you just have to practice dealing with the twisting hose that likes to have a mind of its own... Today I would rather plan 1-2 more suction sockets and choose a shorter hose instead.

But I would never buy a normal vacuum cleaner again (we are not allergic to house dust, but the thing itself is great, the previous Vorwerk vacuum cleaner that was already a class better in terms of suction also cost a lot and probably doesn’t last as long, plus a rolling device that rolls behind can do more against the door frame hitting, jamming, and tipping over, no more annoying blocking of the device when it rolls over children's building blocks, etc.)

Thanks in advance...

So the thing with the 1...2 extra cans is not a problem, as all the walls are still in the raw state and the first floor is not yet built. The thing with the switch on the telescopic handle makes perfect sense and is now also going on the must-have list. Although the missus is not the smallest, she should have a certain luxury. Which certainly does not consist of me carrying the hose ☺.

What now comes up as a question would be whether it would make sense to take those cans that also pull the hose into the pipe... hope you understand me on that? I saw that in a video on YouTube and it looked quite useful. Although that certainly also has its pitfalls if the hose gets stuck once.

Can you say approximately how much your hose weighs? The 3 kids should also be able to vacuum their rooms, which currently somewhat fails because the vacuum cleaner is in the basement and the kids have to carry it up to the 3rd floor... our temporary apartment is more than cramped so that there are only 2 rooms per floor.
