Hello,

we are building a single-family house in Schwabenländle.

Due to the location of the plot and the design of the house, we have now decided on a carport.

The driveway is from the south and the house entrance is on the east. That means the carport is located right in front of the front door and should also serve as an entrance canopy.

In addition, we want to integrate a small storage room of about 2.3m x 2m in the carport to store bicycles and a lawn mower. Is that enough?

The carport should have a length of 7.5m and a width of 3.5m. The plot doesn’t allow for more.

Could you please take a look at my plan and say whether the planning is realistic as it is or what could be improved? Where should the entrance to the storage room be planned, on the left or from the front?

Thank you very much!

But it will be very tight in that room if several bicycles and a lawnmower are to go in. A lawnmower takes up a lot of space. Otherwise, the dimensions of the carport are quite good. What would annoy me, however, is the following. Nowadays, a car is usually 2 meters wide. To allow the passenger to get out comfortably, you park about 50 cm away from the wall. That means the distance between the car and the door is "only" one meter. That can feel quite tight. The other point would be that the entrance area could seem quite dark, but that depends on the carport roof.

It will be tight. Unfortunately, I fear so too. But an alternative would be to leave out the parking spot entirely, then the car could move further forward and the entrance area would be free. But then we wouldn't have any more space for the bicycles etc. Behind the house, unfortunately no garden shed is allowed, as according to the development plan there is a planting requirement.:(
The carport roof MUST be greened.

We have a similar arrangement, but our carport is 4.5m wide. You have to keep in mind that the space at the front door should be kept clear of the car. Otherwise, the car will always be in your way when going into or coming out of the house. It would be too small for me....

That is of course quite small in size. More than a few bicycles and a lawnmower really won’t fit in there. I hope you have other storage options for children's toys and garden furniture, as well as garden tools?

Sounds like do-gooders have regulated life to death again...

Hello,

unfortunately, I can only agree with my predecessors. 2.3 x 2 m is definitely too small for the intended purpose.

If a room is absolutely necessary, I would rather consider extending it across the entire width of the carport and either placing the trash bin inside or finding another place for it. Of course, you would then need two doors: one to the garden and one to the carport width.

The second alternative would be to design the carport completely open and, for example, hang the bicycles space-savingly from the ceiling – but that is difficult for children....

A small (and light) electric lawn mower could also be stored in the basement.

Regards,

Dirk

PS: Another option for the lawn mower would be an electric robotic mower. It parks anyway at its charging station outdoors and "cries for help" when someone carries it off the property. However, these devices are not exactly cheap...
